Elementary Programs of Choice Application for 2023/2024 Kindergarten Students

  • Early French Immersion
  • Reggio
  • Mandarin Bilingual
  • Montessori

This form is intended for children who are eligible to begin Kindergarten in September 2023. Children must be 5 years old by December 31, 2023.

All families interested in registering their child into an Elementary Program of Choice must complete this online application. This includes families that have older children currently in any Program of Choice.

Our elementary Programs of Choice application for new kindergarten students is based on space and availability. Where space is limited, placement will be given by program priority and random draw.

Priority for Early French Immersion and Reggio:
  1. Having a sibling (brother or sister) in the same Program of Choice, in the same school, in the 2023-2024 school year.
  2. Program of Choice catchment area child.
  3. Non-catchment area child who is a resident within the Coquitlam School District boundaries.
  4. Non-district area child who is a resident outside of the Coquitlam School District boundaries.
Priority for Montessori and Mandarin Bilingual:
  1. Having a sibling (brother or sister) in the same Program of Choice, in the same school, in the 2023-2024 school year.
  2. Non-catchment area child who is a resident within the Coquitlam School District boundaries.
  3. Non-district area child who is a resident outside of the Coquitlam School District boundaries.

Parents will be emailed their child’s placement during the last week of January. Parents must accept or decline the placement offer within 48 hours of receiving the initial email notice.

If a child is successful in getting a placement in a Program of Choice:

  • The placement offered will be the highest choice available.
  • If that placement is not the family’s highest choice, the child will still be waitlisted for their higher choices. Waitlists are held until end of the first week of September of the school year.
  • Schools will contact families by priority and draw order if space becomes available.
  • Please do not contact the school or board office regarding your placement on the waitlist.
  • If a family declines the initial offered placement, or do not respond within 48 hours of the offer being sent, your child will be withdrawn from the process and not eligible for a Program of Choice. The child will then have to register at their neighbourhood catchment school (English program).

If a child is not successful in obtaining a placement in a Program of Choice:

  • The child will have to be registered at their neighbourhood catchment school (English program).
  • The child will still be waitlisted for their Programs of Choice request(s) and will be contacted if space becomes available.

Exception:

  • Meadowbrook Elementary is a full Reggio program school and has its own catchment area. Please note that families living in Meadowbrook Elementary’s catchment area can simply register at Meadowbrook.
