Kingergarten Cross Catchment Application

Cross Catchment Application For Students Entering Kindergarten For The First Time in 2020/2021

(children who are five years old on or before December 31, 2020 may enter school in September 2020)

NEW: This is not a first come, first serve application process. Please take time to complete the form accurately.

DO NOT click the back button in your web browser to navigate the form. Please use the NEXT and PREV buttons in the form.

Complete this form to request a change of school for the 2020-21 school year from your child's assigned catchment school. Cross catchment applications will not be accepted for Kindergarten unless they are registered in their catchment school first. To find out your child’s assigned catchment school, click School Locator (pop-up blocker must be disabled to access the School Locator).

Kindergarten students who have a sibling at a school outside their catchment will be accepted at the siblings school (provided the sibling will still be in attendance the following school year) and are requested to register at the siblings school. Therefore, parents do not need to fill out a cross catchment application.

This process does not accept requests for French Immersion or Montessori. French Immersion and Montessori placements have already been completed through the Programs of Choice application process.

Please be aware that each request is subject to a random draw process and not all requests for a change of school can be accommodated. Schools must accommodate in-catchment students and sibling requests before accepting any other cross catchment transfers. The criteria for approval of a cross catchment request (non-sibling request) is:

  1. Non-catchment area child currently residing in SD43.
  2. Child currently residing outside of SD43 boundaries.
*Smiling Creek Elementary School will only consider cross catchment applications from families in the Leigh Elementary catchment area who reside east of Kingston Street and North of David Avenue.

Following the application process, families will receive a confirmation email containing their request information. Should an error(s) have been made in the application, parents can respond to the email and indicate the error(s) for correction. Please do not complete another request.

Parents will be informed by email about the results of the application some time during the first week in March. Successful applications will automatically be registered to the new school. Schools will contact successful applicants.

If a child is denied a cross catchment transfer, parents will be provided the opportunity to appeal the cross catchment denial. An appeal does not guarantee placement in the requested school.
